Internal fertilization
Advantages:
- Increase chance gametes meet and greater change of successful fertilisation.More protection against outside environments and predators, and therefore a higher chance of surviving until birth.
- More selective of their mates.
- Less chance of desiccation of gametes.
Disadvantages:
- Harder to bring both male and female into intimate contact.
- Limited amount of offspring being produced at any given time.
- Higher risk of sexually transmitted diseases being passed on.
External fertilization
Advantages:
- Results in the production of a large number of offspring
- Easier to find mates as the gametes released can drift (wind, water etc).
- More genetic variation
Disadvantages:
- Environmental hazards such as predators reduce the change of surviving into adulthood.
- Large amounts of gametes go unfertilised and wasted.
- Not guaranteed that sperm will come in contact with eggs.

Answer :
Advantages of internal and external fertilization.
- Internal fertilization shields the fertilized egg or embryo from predators and harsh conditions, resulting in a better rate of survival than external fertilization.
- External fertilization protects eggs from desiccation in an aquatic setting. Broadcast spawning increases genetic diversity by mixing genes more evenly within a population.
Disadvantages of internal and external fertilization.
- The chances of successful fertilization have improved. The mates are choosy. The likelihood of gametes being dehydrated diminishes. The young one is protected from predators and the outer world, increasing its chances of survival.
- External fertilization has two major drawbacks: a significant number of gametes remain unfertilized and are thus squandered. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that the sperm and eggs will make contact.
