You can either  use the Benedict's solution-sugar test or the starch test using diluted iodine drops.

In the case of the starch test the part of the food item containing sugar (starch) turns bluish-black.

Add 10 drops of Benedicts solution to each test tube.carefully heat the test tubes by suspending in a hot water bath at about 40-50 degrees Celsius for five minutes. Note:any colour can change.
