4 years ago my father's age was 4 times that of my age. At present the sum of my father's age and that of mine is 53 years. What is my father's present age ?

let my father's present age is x and my present age is y.
therefore, according to question
first equation will be
x-4=4(y-4)
and second equation will be
x+y=53.
now by solving these two equation we get,
x=40.
now by putting x=40 in second or first equation we get
y=13.
