4 years ago my father's age was 4 times that of my age . at present the sum of my fathers is and that of mine is 53. what is my fathers present age​

∴ 4 years ago both of your ages will be : (4-y) and (4-x)

∴According to the given condition ,

(4-y) = 4 × (4-x)

(4-y) = 16 - 4x

4x -y = 16 - 4

∴ 4x - y = 12 ⇒ [I]

Also according to second condition ,

x + y = 53 ⇒ [II]

Now adding equation [I] and [II]

5x = 65 ---------> (here y will get eliminated by elimination method )

∴ x = 65/5

∴ x= 13

Now substituting x=13 in equation [II]

∴ x + y = 53

∴ 13 + y = 53

∴ y = 53 - 13

∴ y = 40

Ans. Hence your father's present age is 40 years and your present age is 13 years....
