Let the present age of Rahim = x years.

Let the present age of Ramu = y years.

4 years ago:

= > Age of Rahim = (x - 4) years.

= > Age of Ramu = (y - 4) years.

Now,

Given that 4 years ago Rahim's age was three times Ramu's age.

= > (x - 4) = 3(y - 4)

= > x - 4 = 3y - 12

= > x - 3y = -8 ------ (1)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Given that After 2 years, it would be double.

= > (x + 2) = 2(y + 2)

= > x + 2 = 2y + 4

= > x - 2y = 2 ------ (2)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On solving (1) & (2), we get

= > x - 3y = -8

= > x - 2y = 2

----------------

-y = -10

y = 10

Substitute y = 10 in (1), we get

= > x - 3y = -8

= > x - 3(10) = -8

= > x - 30 = -8

= > x = -8 + 30

= > x = 22.

Therefore,

The present age of Rahim = 22 years.

The present age of Ramu = 10 years.

Hope this helps!
