let sakshi's age be x
and sarthak's age be y
so

x-4=(y-4)+3

x-4=y-1

x-y=3

hope it will help you

The linear equation representing that time is: x - y = - 3.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's understand a few concepts:

Let's say "x" years be the present age of a person.

We have "n" no. of years.

So,

The person's age after n years will be = (x + n) years

and

The person's age n years ago / n years back was = (x - n) years

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's solve the given problem:

Let's say,

"x" years → be Sakshi's present age

"y" years → be Sarthak's present age

4 years ago:

Sakshi's age was = (x - 4) years

and

Sarthak's age was = (y - 4) years

4 years ago Sakshi'sage was 3 years less than Sarthak's age, so we can form the equation as,

[Sakshi's age 4 years ago] = [Sarthak's age] - 3

\implies (x-4) = (y - 4) - 3

\implies x-4 = y - 4 - 3

\implies x-4 = y -7

\implies x-y = -7 + 4

\implies \bold{x-y = -3}

Thus, the linear equation representing that time is → \boxed{\boxed{ \bold{x-y = -3}}}.
