Given :

Mass of earth , M .

Mass of masa moon , 81M .

To find :

The potential energy of  object of mass m situated at a distance R from the  centre of earth and r from the centre of moon .

Solution :

We know , potential energy between two object at a distance r is given by :

U=-\dfrac{GM m}{r}

Therefore , potential energy of the object is :

U_{T}=U_m+U_e\\\\U_{T}=-\dfrac{GMm}{R}-\dfrac{G(81M)m}{r}\\\\U_T=-(\dfrac{GMm}{R}+\dfrac{81GMm}{r})

Therefore , the potential energy of mass m is U_T=-(\dfrac{GMm}{R}+\dfrac{81GMm}{r}) .
