Answer:

Ratio of milk to water will be 2:1. The calculation goes as follows:

In the mixture of 35 litres, ratio of milk to water is 4:1. Therefore,

Milk=4x35/(4+1)=4x35/5 = 28 litres and Water=35–28 = 7 litres.

After addition of 7 litres of water to the original mixture, the new volume of the mixture = 35+7 = 42 litres and the new volume of water= 7+7=14 litres. Volume of milk remains unchanged at 42–14=28 litres.

It follows that ratio of milk to water in the new mixture=28/14=2:1.

Step-by-step explanation:

milk : water = 4:1

total = 5 parts

water = 1part

water% = 1/5 ×100=20

water % in mixture of 35 liter is 20%

water % in 7 liter water is 100%

After adding 35 liter mixture to 7 liter water

Average water% in result mixture

35×20%+ 100%×7

_____________

35+7

= (700+700) %/42 = 1400%/42 = 100%/3

=33 1/3%

remaining % = 100 - 33 1/3% = 66 2/3% is % of milk

% in fraction form are

33 1/3% = 1/3

66 2/3 % =2/3

ratio of milk and water = 2/3:1/3 =2:1
