40% of passenger from a train got down at station X, 75% of remaining Got down at station Y if remaining 12 were taken to station Z that how many passengers were there in a train?

Solution:

Let total passengers be P

At X = 0.4P

so remaining = 0.6X

At Y = 0.75(0.6P)

At Z = 12

so,

0.4P + 0.75(0.6P) + 12 = P

0.4P + 0.45P +12 = P

P = 0.85P +12

0.15P = 12

P = 80

P = 80

so total no of passengers were 80
