Find the percentage of passengers left after station x:

Passengers left = 100 - 40 = 60%

Find the percentage of passengers left after station y:

Passengers alighted = 75% x 60 = 0.75 x 60 = 45%

Passengers left = 60 - 45 = 15%

Find the number of passengers on the train:

Passengers left = 15%

Passenger left = 12

15% = 12

1% = 12/15

100% = 12/15 x 100 = 80

Answer: There are 80 passengers on the train
