Let the total people in the bus be y.

As given, 40℅ people got doen at station A.

Therefore, 60℅ of y = 48

 =  \frac{60}{100}  \times y = 48

 = y = 48 \times  \frac{100}{60}

y= 80

Therefore the original number of passengers is 80.
