Let the total percentage at starting of the bus=100%
Then 40% got down at station X, So remaining in the bus=60%
Then 75% of the remaining got down at station Y= 60% -75% of 60%
Remaining passengers= 60%-45%
=15%
So 15% passengers= 12 passengers

So 100% passengers= 80 passengers.. ans!

Answer:

Let total passengers be P

At X = 0.4P

so remaining = 0.6X

At Y = 0.75(0.6P)

At Z = 12

so,

0.4P + 0.75(0.6P) + 12 = P

0.4P + 0.45P +12 = P

P = 0.85P +12

0.15P = 12

P = 80

So total no of passengers were 80
