40% of the people who joined a swimming club were female. After one year, the number of female members decreased by 20% and the number of male members increased by 45%. In the end, the club had 228 more members than a year ago. What was the difference between the number of male and female members at first?

Answer:

let at 1st, number of female members are 40

then number of male members are 60

after 1 year female member decreases by 20%

now female members are

40-40×20/100

=40-8

=32

male members increases by 45%

now male members

60+60×45/ 100

=60+27

=87

now total members (87+32)=119

so(119-100)=19 more members than 1 years ago

so actual members in 1 year ago

100×228/19=1200

so female members =1200×40/100=480

male members =(1200-480)=720
