SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

One ticket is drawn at random from a bag containing tickets numbered 1 to 40. The probability that the selected ticket has a number which is a multiple of 5 is

(a) 1/5

(b) 3/5

(c) 4/5

(d) 1/3

EVALUATION

Here a bag contains tickets numbered 1 to 40.

So the total number of tickets = 40

So the total number of possible outcomes = 40

Now One ticket is drawn at random

Let A be the event that the ticket is multiple of 5

Now the tickets multiple of 5 among the tickets are 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40

So the total number of possible outcomes for the event A is 8

Hence the required probability is

= P(A)

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{8}{40} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{1}{5} }

FINAL ANSWER

The correct option is

 \displaystyle \sf{ (a) \:  \:   \frac{1}{5} }
