Let, the number of boys be,'x'

So, no. of girls = (x*1/3)

                       = x/3

By condition,

(x+x/3)

= (3x+x)/3

= 4x/3

By condition,

4x/3 = 40

⇒ 4x = 40*3

⇒ x = 40*3/4

⇒ x = 10*3

⇒ x = 30

So, the number of boys is 30.

∴ The number of girls = (30*1/3)

                                   = 10
