Given data :

  • Mass of coal = 108 kg
  • Depth of mine = 60 m
  • Time taken to hoist coal = 1 hour = 60 min = 3600 sec

To find : Power is required to hoist 108 kg of coal per hour ?

Solution : Now by formula of potential energy which require to pull 108 kg load.

⟹ Potential energy = m * g * h

{where, g is gravitational force}

Let, depth of mine be height, h

⟹ Potential energy = 108 * 10 * 60

⟹ Potential energy = 1080 * 60

⟹ Potential energy = 64800 joule

Now, by formula of power :

⟹ Power = work done/time

{we know, work done = Potential energy}

⟹ Power = potential energy /time

⟹ Power = 64800/3600

⟹ Power = 18 watt

Answer : Hence, the 18 watt power is required to hoist 108 kg of coal per hour from a mine which is 60 m deep.
