Let the present age = x
Then x+40=(x-32)^2
X+40 = x^2 + 1024 -64x
65x= x^2 +984
X^2 - 65x + 984 = 0
Apply quadratic formula
This will give us (65+- 17 )/2
This equal to 41
Then x+40=(x-32)^2
