TO DETERMINE

The present ratio of water and milk in the new mixture

EVALUATION

Here it is given that in 400 litre milk and water are in the ratio 3 : 2

In 400 litre mixture

$\displaystyle \sf{Amount \: of \: milk = 400 \times \frac{3}{5} = 240 \: litre }$

$\displaystyle \sf{Amount \: of \: water = 400 \times \frac{2}{5} = 160 \: litre }$

Now 60 litre mixture is replaced with water

In 60 litre mixture

$\displaystyle \sf{Amount \: of \: milk = 60 \times \frac{3}{5} = 36 \: litre }$

$\displaystyle \sf{Amount \: of \: water = 60 \times \frac{2}{5} = 24 \: litre }$

In the new mixture

Amount of milk = 240 - 36 = 204 litre

Amount of water = 160 - 24 + 60 = 196 litre

Hence present ratio of water and milk in the new mixture

= 204 : 196

= 51 : 49
