To find : If a person was selected at random from the people who polled, what is the probability he is in favour of A but against B

Solution:

Candidate         Against         Favour      Total

A                         220              180              400

B                         150               250             400

in favour of A  but against B?

Facour of  A    =   (180/400)

Against   B        =   (150/400)

favour of A but against B   =  (180/400)(150/400)

= 270/1600

= 27/160

in favour of A  but not  against B?

Favour of  A    =   (180/400)

Not Against   B        =   (250/400)

favour of A but not against B   =  (180/400)(250/400)

= 450/1600

= 45/160

= 9/32
