so,

5x+7y=285. ---(1)

4x+4y=220--(2)

x+y=55---(dividing equation 2 by 4)-----(3)

x=55-y. ---(from 3)----(4)

use equation 4 in 1

5(55-y)+7y=285

275-5y+7y=285

2y=10

y=₹5 --(5)

use equation 5 in 3

x+5=55

x=₹50

1 book = ₹50

1pen = ₹5

now ,

for 3 books

50×3=150

for 5 pen

5×5=25

total cost = 150+25=175
