Answer:

c. 4

Step-by-step explanation:

42= 3 b +6 g

42+6=6b+3 g b=6g=4

check

42= 3 6+6 4

42=18+24

42=42

then

48=6 6+3 4

48=36 +12

hence answer is 4

The correct answer is option (D) 6

Number of girls = 6

Given:

42 chocolates are distributed among some boys and girls

If each boy gets 3, then each girl gets 6 chocolates

But if each boy gets 6 and each girl gets 3, it needs 6 more

To find:

Number of girls

Solution:

Let x be the number of boys and y be the number of girls

If each boy gets 3 and each girl gets 6 chocolates

⇒ 3x + 6y = 42

⇒ x + 2y = 14  ____(1)

But if each boy gets 6 and each girl gets 3, it needs 6 more

⇒ 6x + 3y = 42 + 6 extra need

⇒ 6x + 3y = 48

⇒ 2x + y = 16___(2)

Now solve (1) and (2) to get number of boys and girls

2 × (1) ⇒ 2x + 4y = 28 ___(3)

1 × (2) ⇒ 2x + y = 16 ____ (4)

Subtract (4) from (3)

⇒ (3) - (4) = 2x + y - 2x - 4y = 16 - 28

= - 3y = -12

⇒   y = 4

Substitute y = 4 in (1)

⇒  x + 2(4) = 14

⇒ x = 14 - 8

⇒ x = 6

Therefore, Number of girls = 6

The correct answer is option (D) 6
