Answer:

7*7=49

42pumps emptied

=49

1 pump emptied= 49/42

180 pumps emptied= 42/49*180= 210hours

210/5=42

therefore,it will take 42weeks to empty the 180tanks if they used to work for 5 hours ....

The number of days taken by 180 pumps used 5 hours each day for emptying the tank is 42 days.

Given:

42 pumps can empty a tank in 7 days, working 7 hours a day.

To Find:

We are required to find the number of days taken by 180 pumps used for 5 hours each day for emptying the tank.

Solution:

It is given that 42 pumps can empty a tank in 7 days, working 7 hours a day.

  • The number of pumps is directly proportional to the working hours and number of days.
  • The number of days is inversely proportional to the watching hours.

From the above information, Let x be the number of days required by 180 pumps used for 5 hours each day to empty the tank.

42 = 7×7  -------(1)

180 = 5×x ------(2)

Now divide the equation(2) by equation(1)

180/42 = 5x/49

5x = (180×49)/42

5x = (180×7)/6

5x = 210

x = 42

Therefore, The number of days taken by 180 pumps used 5 hours each day for emptying the tank is 42 days.
