Trends in Periodic Table

Explanation:

  1. While moving from left to right through a period, the elemental number of valence electrons increases and changes between 1 to 8 whereas the valency of the elements which when first combined with H or O, that increases from 1 to 4, and then it reduces to zero.
  2. Reduction is a type of reaction which results in the gain of electrons and the reduction potential have the same trend as the electron affinity.
  3. Basic characters of Oxides increases from left to right and decreases from top to bottom
  4. Electronegativity values commonly increase from left to right and decrease from top to bottom of a group. Fluorine has the highest electronegativity value.
  5. Electron gain enthalpy becomes more negative moving from left to right in a period and from left to right the atomic size decreases as well as the nuclear charge increases.
