Remember: during multiplication, whenever we multiply the signs, we keep the sign as it is.
Eg: 1. (-) *(-) = + and the sign is gonna remain plus.
2. (-) *(+) = -, so the sign is gonna remain minus.
But, during addition or subtraction, when we multiply the sign. For eg: (- 8+12)=?
Soln. We first multiply the sign, i.e (-) *(+) = -
Now we know that its minus sign, also, we have to minus the number, but we don't write the same sign to the answer. But we look at the bigger number, i.e., 12.
Since 12> 8, and 12 has the sign plus(+).
So the answer we get would be 4.
I hope you understand what I said.
Thank you :-)
