The answer is option (b) 53

GIVEN

The average of 40 observations is 50 and the average of 60 others observations is 55.

TO FIND

Average of all observations

SOLUTION

The above problem can be simply solved as follows;

Formula to calculate average = Sum of all observations/Number of observations

Average of 40 observations = Sum of 40 observation/40

50 = Sum of 40 observation/40

(Sum)₄₀ = 40 × 50 = 2000 (Eq 1)

Average of 60 observations = Sum of 60 observation/60

(Sum)₆₀ = 55 × 60 = 3300 (Eq 2)

Average of all observation = (3300+ 2000)/100

= 5300/100

= 53

Hence, The answer is 53
