Kapil travels 30m from a point A towards north and from the south point Sachin travels 40m towards east . How far are the two friends from each other now?

Kapil traveled northwards and Sachin traveled eastwards

⇒ The distance between them is the length of the hypotenuse between them

⇒ see attachment

Find the distance:

a² + b² = c²

30² + 40² =c²

c² = 900 + 1600

c² = 2500

c = √2500

c = 50 m

Answer: They are 50 m away from each other.

In ∆ABC, by Pythagoras theorem:-

 {ac }^{2}  =  {ab}^{2}  +  {bc}^{2}  \\  {ac}^{2}  =  {30}^{2}  +  {40}^{2} \\  {ac}^{2}  = 900 + 1600 \\  {ac}^{2}  = 2500 \\ ac =  \sqrt{2500}  \\ ac = 50
