SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

Initially Veer had 60% more love letters than that of Zara. In the last month the no. of love letters of Veer increased. by 25% and that of Zara decreased by 25%. Again in the present month the no. of love letters of Veer decreased to 60% and that of Zara increased by 60%. Then which of the following statements is correct regarding the present no. of love letters:

(a) Veer has 40% more letters than that of Zara

(b) Zara has 20% less letters than that of Veer

(c) Veer and Zara have equal no of letters

(d) Zara has 37.5% less letters than that of Veer

EVALUATION

Let initially the number of love letters of Zara = 100

Here it is given that Initially Veer had 60% more love letters than that of Zara

So initially the number of love letters of Veer = 160

Now in the last month the no. of love letters of Veer increased by 25% and that of Zara decreased by 25%

So in that month

Number of Love letters of Zara

 \displaystyle \sf{ = 100  \times  \frac{75}{100} }

 = 75

Number of Love letters of Veer

 \displaystyle \sf{ = 160  \times  \frac{125}{100} }

 = 200

Again in the present month the no. of love letters of Veer decreased to 60% and that of Zara increased by 60%.

So Number of love letters of Zara

 \displaystyle \sf{ = 75  \times  \frac{160}{100} }

 = 120

Number of love letters of Veer

 \displaystyle \sf{ = 200  \times  \frac{60}{100} }

 = 120

Hence Veer and Zara have equal no of letters

FINAL ANSWER

The correct option is

(c) Veer and Zara have equal no of letters
