Naming Oxyacids
Oxyacids are named without mentioning hydrogen. Open an element (non-metal) is able to form more than 1 oxyacid.
Ex. Sulphur can form to oxyacids,
Sulfuric and sulphurousc acid.
In naming such acids ,the one with the greater number of oxygen atom is given the suffix 'ic' and the one with the lesser number of oxygen atoms is given the suffix 'o u s'.
Again let's take the example of sulphur,
H2SO3 ----- Sulphurous acid (less number of oxygen atoms)
H2SO4 ----- Sulphuric acid (more number of oxygen atoms)
Nitrogen can also form two oxyacids.
HNO2 --- Nitrous acid
HNO3 --- Nitric acid
