The third contestant was defeated by the first contestant by 60%.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the second contestant secured x number of votes.

Now, the first contestant secured 25% more votes than the second.

So, the first one secured x(1 + \frac{25}{100} ) = 1.25x votes.

Again, the third secured 300 votes less than the first.

So, the third one secured (1.25x - 300) votes.

Now, x + 1.25x + (1.25x - 300) = 1100

⇒ 3.5x = 1400

x = 400

So, 1.25x = 500 and (1.25x - 300) = 200

Therefore, the third contestant was defeated by the first contestant by

\frac{500 - 200}{500}\times 100\%  = 60\% (Answer)
