$given.... \\ \\ 48 + 2x - x {}^{2} = 0 \\ x {}^{2} - 2x - 48 = 0 \\ x {}^{2} - 8x + 6x - 48 = 0 \\ x(x - 8) + 6(x - 8) = 0 \\ (x + 6)(x - 8) = 0 \\ x = - 6 \: and \: 8$
