Answer :

Ratio of rate of diffusion = 1 : 4

Molar mass of one gas = 2 g/mol

We have have to find molar mass of another gas.

Graham's law of diffusion : Under similar conditions of temperature and pressure, rates of diffusion of different gases are inversely proportional to the square root of their molecular weight.

  • R₁ / R₂ = √M₂ / √M₁

where, R₁ and R₂ are the rates of diffusion of gas 1 and gas 2 respectively.

By substituting the values, we get

➝ 1 / 4 = √M₂ / √2

➝ 1 / 16 = M₂ / 2

➝ M₂ = 2/16

M₂ = 0.125 g/mol
