Solution :-

Let, the marked price of a monthly train pass

= 100x

Discount offered on the pass = 20%

Total discount = 100x ×20% = 20x

New price = 100x - 20x = 80x

80x is the Selling price on which there is a profit of 44%.

Let, cost price of monthly price be 100y

Then :-

Selling price will be 144y as there is 44% profit on Cost price.

Now 144y = 80x as both correspond to CP.

y/x=5/9

We get the relation between y and x that is 5z:9z

Now, Mp will be 100x = 100×9

Mp = 900z

Cp will be 100y = 500z

Now :-

The new discount on mp is 29%

Therefore new Selling price would be=900z -29%of 900z = 639z

Cp = 500z

Sp = 639z

Profit% = (Sp-cp/cp) × 100

= (639z-500z/500z) × 100

= (139/500)×100

= 17.4%

Hence :-

The required answer is option C (17.4%).
