Given :

  • 49x + 3y + 12 = 0
  • 18x + 6y + 24 = 0

To Find :

  • Value of x = ?
  • Value of y = ?

Solution :

  • 49x + 3y + 12 = 0 - (i)
  • 18x + 6y + 24 = 0 - (ii)

From equation (i) :

 \sf : \implies 49x + 3y + 12 = 0

 \sf : \implies 49x + 3y = - 12

 \sf : \implies 49x = - 12 - 3y

 \sf : \implies x = \dfrac{-12-3y}{49}

Substitute in equation (ii) :

 \sf : \implies 18\times \Bigg(\dfrac{-12-3y}{49}\Bigg) + 6y + 24 = 0

 \sf : \implies dfrac{-216-54y}{49} + 6y + 24 = 0

 \sf : \implies dfrac{-216-54y+ 294y +1176}{49} = 0

 \sf : \implies -216-54y+ 294y +1176 = 0

 \sf : \implies 240y+ 960 = 0

 \sf : \implies 240y = -960

 \sf : \implies y = \cancel{\dfrac{-960}{240}}

 \sf : \implies y = -4

Hence, value of y = - 4.

Substitute in equation (i) :

 \sf : \implies 49x + 3\times (-4) + 12 = 0

 \sf : \implies 49x - 12 + 12 = 0

 \sf : \implies 49x + 0 = 0

 \sf : \implies 49x = 0

 \sf : \implies x = 0

Hence, value of x = 0.

So, Answer is :

  • x = 0
  • y = - 4
