Answer:

C3H4

Explanation:

First of all will write combustion equation of hydrocarbon:

CxHy + (x+y/4)O2 ----> xCO2  + yH2O

Now here we assume all reactants and products in gaseous state.

Using Gay Lussac Law,

we can say that, 1 L of CxHy require (x+y/4) L O2

                            4 L of CxHy require  4(x+y4) L O2

but  in question given that 4 L  CxHy require 16  L O2

                            so,  4(x+y/4)=16

                                   x+y/4=4 -----------(1)

similarly,   1 L of CxHy produce x L CO2

                  4 L of CxHy produce 4x L CO2

but  in question given that 4 L  CxHy produce 12  L CO2

                           so, 4x=12

                                   x=3  -------------(2)

put the value of x in equation (1)

                       so, 3+y/4=4

                          y/4=1

                          y=4

so Hydrocarbon is C3H4
