By using reminder theorem
P(x) = x^4+ 3x^3-2x^2-x+1
f(x) = x-2
x = 2
then putting
P(2) = 2^4 +3×2^3 - 2×2^2-2+1
= 16 + 24 - 8 -2 + 1
= 41-10
= 31
