GIVEN THAT

  • Difference between the length and the breadth of a rectangle is 8 cm

  • Perimeter of the rectangle is 64 cm

TO FIND

  • Length and breadth of the rectangle

FORMULA USED

  • Perimeter of rectangle = 2(L + B)

SOLUTION

  • 2(L + B) = 64
  • L + B = 64 ÷ 2

  • L + B = 32

THEN,

  • L - B = 8 .... (i)
  • L + B = 32 .... (ii)

  • We will solve given equations by elimination method;

  • Adding (i) and (ii), we get

  • 2L = 40
  • L = 40 ÷ 2
  • L = 20

  • So, length of the rectangle is 20 cm

According to question,

  • L - B = 8
  • 20 - B = 8

  • B = 20 - 8
  • B = 12

LENGTH = 20 , BREADTH = 12

PROVE

  • Perimeter of rectangle = 64 cm

  • 2(20 + 12) = 64
  • 2 × 32 = 64

  • 64 = 64
