Hi ,

compare 4x² -4px - ( p² - q² ) = 0 with

ax² + bx + c = 0

a = 4 , b = -4p , c = - ( p² - q² )

discreaminant = b² - 4ac

D = ( -4p )² - 4 ×4 × [ -(p² - q²)]

= 16 ( p² - p² - q² )

= - 16q²

we know that the quadratic formula ,

x = ( - b ± √D ) / 2a

= [ 4 ± √(-16q² ) ] / (2 × 4 )

= [ 4 ( 1 ± qi ) ] / 8

= ( 1 ± qi ) / 2

I hope this helps you.
