Hi ,
Compare 4x² - ( p - 2 )x + 1 = 0 with
ax² + bx + c = 0 ,
we get ,
a = 4 ,
b = - ( p - 2 ) ,
c = 1 ,
It is given that roots are equal.
discreaminant ( D ) = 0
b² - 4ac = 0
[ - ( p - 2 ) ]² - 4 × 4 × 1 = 0
( p - 2 )² = 16
p - 2 = ± √16
p - 2 = ± 4
p = 2 ± 4
p = 2 + 4 or p = 2 - 4
p = 6 or p = -2
I hope this helps you.
