4x² + x - 2

4x² + x - 2 = 0

This is a Quadratic equation.

i.e. ax² + bx + c = 0

Here ,

  • a = 4
  • b = 1
  • c = -2

Solving with Quadratic formula ,

 x =  \frac{ - b ±  \sqrt{ {b}^{2}   - 4ac} }{2a}   \\ x =  \frac{ - 1 ±  \sqrt{ {1}^{2} - 4(4)( - 2) } }{2 \times 4}  \\ x =   \frac{ - 1 ± \sqrt{1 - ( - 32 )} }{8}  \\ x =  \frac{ - 1 ± \sqrt{1+32} }{8} \\ x =  \frac{ - 1 ± \sqrt{33} }{8}
