4x^2 + y^2 = a    ----1equation

xy = b 
__________________________

Adding 4xy on both sides in 1equation.


4x^2 + y^2 + 4xy = a +4xy  
_______________________________________
(by Formula (a+b)^2 = a^2 + b^2 + 2ab
___________________________________


(2x + y)^2 =a +4xy


2x +y =  \sqrt{a + 4b}
