Answer :-

4x + 5y = 23

x + 5y = 17

_____________________

4x + 5y = 23

=> 4x = 23- 5y

=> x = (23 - 5y)/4------(I)

Now, put the value of x in equation ii

x + 5y = 17

=> (23 - 5y)/4 + 5y = 17

=> ( 23 - 5y + 20y)/4 = 17

=> 23 + 15y = 17× 4

=> 15y = 68 - 23

=> 15y = 45

=> y = 3

x = (23 - 5y)/4

=> 23 - 15 /4

=> 8/4

=> 2

So, the value of x = 2 and y = 3
