Step-by-step explanation:

4x + 7y = 2 - (i)

3x + 5y = 1 - (ii)

4x + 7y = 2 {adding (i) and (ii)}

+ 3x + 5y = 1

7x + 12y = 3

x = (3-12y)/7

4x + 7y = 2 {Putting x = (3-12y)/7) }

4(3-12y)/7 + 7y = 2

12 - 48y/7 + 7y = 2

(12 - 48y + 49y)/7 = 2

12 + y = 2×7

12 + y = 14

y = 14-12 => y = 2

Now; y = 2 and x = (3-12y)/7 = 3-12(2)/7 = 3-24/7

=> -21/7 => -3
