2 equations are:

  • 4x + Py + 8 = 0
  • 4x + 4y + 2 = 0

For the equations to have parallel lines,

\bf{\dfrac{a_1}{a_2}=\dfrac{b_1}{b_2}\neq \dfrac{c_1}{c_2}}

In the equations

a is the coefficient of x.

b is the coefficient of y.

c is a constant number.

a₁ = 4                                b₁ = P

a₂ = 4                               b₂ = 4

c₁ = 8                                c₂ = 2

Now

According to the above criteria,

\sf{\dfrac{a_1}{a_2}=\dfrac{b_1}{b_2}}\\\\\\\implies \sf{\dfrac{4}{4}=\dfrac{P}{4}}\\\\\\On \: cross \: multiplication\\ \implies \sf{4P= 16}\\\\\\\implies \sf{P=\dfrac{16}{4}}\\\\\implies \boxed{\bf{P=4}}
