Question -

4x-y=4 and 3x+2y=14 by substitutions method.

Solution -

4x - y = 4 \:  \: ...(1)

3x + 2y = 14 \:  \: ...(2)

From equation (1),

4x - y = 4

 =  > 4x = 4 + y

 =  > x =  \frac{4 + y}{4}

Now, put the value of x in equation (2).

3x + 2y = 14

 =  > 3 \times  \frac{(4 + y)}{4}  + 2y = 14

 =  >  \frac{(12 + 3y)}{4}  + 2y = 14

  =  > \frac{12 + 3y + 8y}{4} = 14

 =  >  \frac{12 + 11y}{4}  = 14

 =  > 12 + 11y = 56

 =  > 11y = 56 - 12

 =  > 11y = 44

 =  >  \boxed{y = 4}

Now put the value of y in the previous value of x.

 =  > x =  \frac{4 + y}{4}

 =  > x =  \frac{8}{4}

 =  >  \boxed{x = 2}
