Discriminant(d) :-

------------------------------

Formula :-

d  = \:  {b}^{2}  - 4 \times a \times c

Here ,

a = coefficient of x^2 = 4

b = coefficient of x = -8

c = constant term = 9

So

d \:  =  \:  {( - 8)}^{2}  - 4 \times 4 \times 9

d \:  =  \: 64 - 144

d \:  =  \:  - 80

Hope it helps.
