5.06 g of pure cupric oxide on complete reduction by heating in a current of hydrogen, gave 4.04 g of metallic copper. 1.3 g of pure metallic copper was completely dissolved in nitric acid and the resultant solution was carefully dried and ignited. 1.63 g of CuO were produced in the process. Show that these results illustrate the law of constant proportion.

Answer:

The ratio of copper and oxygen is 1:0.25

As law of proportion states that the chemical compound always contains exactly the same proportion of elements by mass.

Any water molecule is always made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom in a ratio of 2:1. Experimentally if we observe oxygen and hydrogen in a single water molecule, we can find that 94% of the mass of a water molecule is occupied by oxygen atoms and the rest 6% is the mass of hydrogen. The proportion of mass remains same for any water molecule.
