Answer:

 \:

 \rightarrow5 + 2(x - 1) = x + 4(x - 3)

 \:

multiply 4 × (x-3)

 \:

 \rightarrow5 + 2(x - 1) = x + 4x - 12

 \:

Then, add 5 + 2

 \:

 \rightarrow7x - 7 = x + 4x - 12

 \:

Add 4x - x

 \:

 \rightarrow7x - 7 = 5x - 12

 \:

Collect the like terms.

-7 will go to right hand side and become +7 and +5x will go to left hand side then it will become -5x

 \:

 \rightarrow7x - 5x =  - 12  + 7

 \:

Now subtract 7x - 5x and work out -12 - 7

 \:

 \rightarrow2x =  - 5

 \:

Now bring 2 to the right hand side and will become ÷2

 \:

  \rightarrow x =  \dfrac{ - 5}{2}

 \:

now cancel -5/2

 \:

  \rightarrow x =  \dfrac{ \cancel{ - 5}}{ \cancel2}

 \:

 \rightarrow x =  - 2.5

 \:

 \:

•°• Therefore, value of x = -2.5
