 - 5(2y) + 5( - 5y + 1) = 3y - 71 \\ - 10y - 25y + 5 = 3y - 71 \\ - 35y + 5 = 3y - 71 \\ 5 + 71 = 3y + 35y \\ 76 = 38y \\ \frac{76}{38} = y \\ y = 2

hope it helps you.
