To Find :  Divide AB in 2 equal parts using ruler and compass

Solution:

Step 1 : Draw  a ray AC using a ruler

Step 2 : Open compass for width 5.5 cm using ruler

Step 3: Taking A as a center , cut ray AC at B

AB is line segment of  5.5 cm length

Step 4 : Using suitable compass width ( more than half of the length of AB)

and taking A as center draw arcs on both sides of AB

Step 5 : Keeping compass width same and taking B as center draw arcs such that they intersects arcs drawn in previous step at X and Y

Step 6 :  Draw a line joining XY and intersecting AB at M

M Divided AB in 2 Equal parts

AM = MB = AB/2
