To find : the value of x

Given ratio : 5 : 9 :: x : 72

Solution :

  • We are given the ratio of proportion . Where , 5 and 72 are as extremes while 9 and x are called as mean .
  • As we can see that in the given ratio of proportion one of the ratio is missing.
  • To find missing ratio we can write 5 : 9 :: x : 72  as, \frac{5}{9}=\frac{x}{72}
  • Transposing  like terms we get,

      $$\Rightarrow \quad x=\frac{5\times 72}{9}$$

  • On simplifying we get,

      \Rightarrow x=5 \times 8 \\\Rightarrow x=40\end{array}$$

Hence, value of x is 40 .

Note : value of x was not given therefore after explanation we solved for the value of x .
